About The Gilel Storch Award
The Gilel Storch Award is presented to individuals who, through outstanding efforts and initiatives, have contributed to promoting democratic, universal, and humanistic values in the spirit of Gilel Storch. His work was characterized by courage, commitment, insight, and a profound dedication to fellow human beings.
Gilel Storch (1902–1983) made heroic humanitarian efforts to save people from the Holocaust. Born in Latvia, he fled to Sweden following the outbreak of the Second World War. From Sweden, and often under extremely challenging circumstances, he initiated and negotiated bold rescue efforts that contributed significantly to saving Jews from Nazi persecution and the Holocaust. His actions were driven by courage, determination, wisdom, and an unwavering concern for others.
